Fated for the Dragon is the fourth book in the Dragons of Lake City Series. I loved Fated for the Dragon. I loved the storyline and the characters. I love stories about teachers falling for their students, and this one did not disappoint. I loved all of the twists and turns. I loved that Sam visits his fated mates' grave one a month as a way to remember him. I loved how passionate Sam is about being an archaeologist and how determined he is to be best he can be. I loved that Sam is attracted to his professor and doesn’t know how to deal with his feelings. I loved watching him sort through his emotions. I loved that he wins the internship and gets to go on an archaeologist dig with Professor Stephen and that they are both interested in the Sky Meadows Wolfs and that they are trying to prove that the pictures on the pottery had to do with fated mates. I loved that they gave into a night of passion and then agreed that they shouldn’t do it again. I loved that Stephen wants to support Sam when he finds out that he is pregnant especially after he finds out that his parents won’t help him and that they want him to give his baby up for adoption. I loved that Sam is able to find a happy life and family with Stephen. I can’t wait to read more books by Kellan Larkin and see what he comes up with next. Fated for the Dragon by Kellan Larkin was the fourth book in Larkin’s Dragons of Lake City series. However, you can definitely read this as a standalone as I didn’t even realize it was part of a series until I had finished it.
There were certain things I really liked about this book. For one thing, Sam’s dedication to his education was admirable. From start to finish, he was working toward his goal of getting into grad school.
I liked the instant chemistry between Sam and Stephen too. It was confusing for them, so they didn’t just immediately fall into bed. They got to know each other first.
The problem was that, despite the things that I liked, I just wanted more. More development, more heat, more engagement.
There were too many scenes that weren’t about the growth of their relationship and I ended up not feeling invested in the story. The conflict fell flat because I didn’t care about things like the research funding problems Stephen was having.
Plus, I didn’t feel like I knew Stephen, even by the end. Not well, at least.
Fated for the Dragon didn’t knock my socks off. It had some good elements and I liked the examination of guilt over moving on after losing someone you loved. I’ll think twice before reading another book by this author but I won’t completely rule it out.

First half is slow but necessary to lay the foundation of the plot. Sam was a young werewolf when he lost his fated mate Tobias in a tragic accident. He has never been able to overcome his lost and gave up hope of ever discovering another mate. After all, wouldn't he be betraying his dead mate by searching for another? Ever anniversary of Tobias' death he would visit Tobias at the cemetery mourning what he had lost and also mourning his bleak future. He just couldn't bring himself to disrespect his mate's memory by not putting his grief to rest. That was until he enrolled in Dr. Saltz's archeology class. This was where he shined--archeology and Stephen Saltz was his beacon. Both live in a city of known shifters but Sam doesn't recognize Stephen's dragon. He just knows Stephan is the fulfillment of his two goals an archeology degree and Stephan as his mate. Stephen also senses the draw but knows professors and students don't do relationships. Thus lies their dilemma. This is story of both searching for the solution to their same problem while wanting to complete their academic goals. Their physical contacts are played out only twice which is refreshing for a shifter story whether M/M or M/F. Their emotions and thoughts are what appealed to me. I was gifted this book by the author for my honest review.

This extraordinary book makes the impossible seem quite natural, a story so tender and full of love it almost seems to hug you as you read it, a truly lovely story.
